How-to track partial entries & leads in forms with Insiteful

  1. Add Google Tag Manager to your Open Google Tag Manager and copy your Container ID to your clipboard (Ctrl+C). Here’s where you’ll find that ID (read more about how to find your Google Tag Manager ID here):

    Then, in the tracking tab of your project settings, you can add your Google Tag Manager Container ID (as seen below, per the official documentation):Copy & paste Google Tag Manager container ID into to track you forms
  2. Add your website in Insiteful: Then, simply login to Insiteful & visit the Domains page. Here, you should add your website and custom domain (ie. where indicated in the screenshot below.

    Common mistake: Don’t add the full URL of a specific form (ie. instead of your top-level domain ( on the Domains page.

  3. Install code: First, simply copy & paste the tracking code from the Install page into your Google Tag Manager Container. Install Code for Partial Entry Tracking & Form Abandonment Recovery

    Common mistake: Don’t forget the extra tracking code (, otherwise Insiteful won’t receive any data from fields other than the name, email & phone number from your forms.

  4. Special install code (required): Then, copy & paste the third line of code below (for tracking inputs without a parent <form> element) — this is an important, required step for tracking forms. Your installation script should look something like this (except with your activation code from the Install page):

    Finally, hit “Publish” in GTM to start tracking abandoned forms and partial entries.

Testing your tracking

Once you’ve installed Insiteful on your, you’ll probably want to test it out once to ensure your partial entries are being captured. When doing so, follow the steps below:

  1. Open your
  2. Clear the cookies & cache for
  3. Hard refresh (Ctrl/Cmd+Enter) the page
  4. Be sure to retype or choose a new option for each field when testing (don’t just leave the previous/existing entries & click “Ok”, otherwise Insiteful gets nothing to track)
  5. Also, be sure to use a new email each time you test (ie. — otherwise the existing lead will get updated with the new form entries
Both and Google Tag Manager use heavy caching, so until the cache is properly cleared, your device will continue to load an old version of the which does not have the Insiteful script installed yet. If you don’t see any partial entries when you test the first time, this does not mean Insiteful is broken (we have tons of happy customers — Insiteful is the first & only solution for tracking forms) — it almost always means our tracking code is not yet fully-installed on your form. Either your cache is not clearing properly, or you may have missed one of the steps below—

When you login to the Insiteful dashboard, three powerful web tracking reports are just one click away:

  1. Funnel Analytics

    Clicking on the chart icon next any given web form on the Forms page will bring you to the report pictured below: a top-level summary of your form performance, visualized as a funnel, along with smart recommendations on areas for improvement (i.e. the “confused field” warning below).

    The Form Fills report (pictured below) shows the contacts that are filling out your online web forms. In cases where we’re able to collect enough partial data to assemble contact information, we’ll send you an email notification and add the profile to the Leads page.

    As mentioned earlier, the Leads page lists all email leads where Insiteful is able to capture sufficient contact information from partial form entry data.
